On Friday, 23 June, the UWA Public Policy Institute had the privilege of launching its signature report—"Indian Ocean Futures: Prospects for shared regional success" at the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
Director Shamit Saggar, Fellow Anu Rammohan, Communications and Engagement Coordinator Miriam Fisher and Executive Officer Clare Feenan joined members of the ASEAN-Australian Strategic Youth Partnership to collaborate on the launch.
The High Commission was abuzz with energy from the 44 young leaders from 11 countries who gathered to discuss, debate and ideate on the "Future Cities 2050" theme at the four-day ASEAN-Australia Young Leaders Forum.
The Commission's First Secretary Negah Rahmani officially launched "Indian Ocean Futures" to a crowd full of AAYLF delegates and dignitaries. This was followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session with Professors Saggar and Rammohan, as well as AASYP CEO Racheline Tantular.
"It was a pleasure to introduce the expert assessments found in the UWA Public Policy Institute’s Indian Ocean Futures report launched on the first day of the Forum to a theatre filled with both the leaders of today, as well as the leaders of the future," Professor Saggar said.
"I consider the evidence-led perspectives in this report will become a staple of future Forums. The UWA Public Policy Institute is a proud supporter of AASYP and is delighted to see it move from strength to strength. We are certain this is a trajectory the Partnership will continue on well into the future."
