Welcome to my falconry vocabulary series! Today's word is "footing" or "footing me". There's a lot more I could have said about this (like how their foot locks up), but I can always make a part 2. :) Please note that the information provided here is from my years of experience as a falconer and with wildlife rescue, I am not a biologist or an expert. Also, this information may be different outside of North America. Constructive correction welcome in the comments below!
"What's wrong with Charlie's leg??"
Charlie was found in the wild with a broken leg that had already healed the wrong way. The bones were already fused, and there was nothing that could be done. (I am not her first owner so I wasn't there at that time.) She is under the care of a veterinarian, the break doesn't seem to cause her any pain or distress, and she has adapted to using it. I watch carefully for any foot problems or signs of discomfort. I have also altered some equipment to make it easier for her to balance. Don't worry! She's fine. Thank you for your concern.

Raptors are not pets! I am a licensed falconer in my state. Please check your local guidelines regarding falconry.
