This clock hung on my parent's den wall for over 50 years, a gift from my uncle Robby. He was a technician for Western Union during the time they abandoned their time service business. I vaguely remember it briefly running as a kid, but for most of the its life there, it was just a cool decoration. I have had it for a few years since my mom passed and I have always intended to make a project of it but I did not really realize what I had. I recently decided to dig into it and as I began to watch youtube videos and read some of the wealth of information on the web, I realized I had a real treasure. Here you see the clock hanging in my shop, after my cleaning/oiling/regulating efforts, receiving an hourly pulse from an Arduino/GPS based master clock I designed and built using an Adafruit GPS shield. The sweep second hand on this clock, with a movement made before 1917 is always within 1 sec of GPS time.
A paper sticker inside the clock is labeled "KEX Portland Oregon" with "cleaned and oiled" dates in 1952 and 1960. KEX was a large Portland radio station that was operating during that time, so I am guessing that is where it was once deployed.
