The Yorkshire choir, Chordiality, perform Caccini’s Ave Maria, edited and arranged by Patrick M. Liebergen
Although an element of mystery surrounds this piece, as to whether it was actually written by Giulio Caccini, this is mainly because the setting didn’t come to light until later in the twentieth century. Now, the Ave Maria, attributed to Caccini, has become one of the most beloved solo works in recent years.
Italian Giulio Romolo Caccini (1551-1618) was a composer, teacher, singer, instrumentalist and writer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras. He was one of the founders of the genre of opera, and one of the most influential creators of the new Baroque style. He also wrote works for solo voice and described the new monodic style of the period in the preface of his famous Le Nuove Musiche, a set of madrigals and airs for solo voice and basso continuo.
The choral arrangement by Patrick M. Liebergen features a keyboard and flute part. On this recording, Chordiality welcomed local flautist Rosie Walsh to join them. Rosie has performed with the choir at a number of concerts.
Chordiality is a mixed choir based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK, and performs a wide range of music at a variety of venues across the region every year. The choir is celebrating 27 years together and has a growing complement of over 40 singers. The music director is Peter Sherlock. The recording was made during the Covid-19 lockdown with each choir member singing their respective part to a backing tape whilst in isolation. The individual recordings were then sewn together by sound technician, Richard Reeday, to create the finished work. Further information about Chordiality can be found on the choir’s website at [ Ссылка ].
