As the Leclerc tank is being developed to the XLR standard, substantial new modifications have been introduced to the design of the equipment. These changes aim to enhance the safety of the crew and boost the main battle tank’s survivability. Crucially, the lessons learned from the Ukrainian conflict’s battlefields have been incorporated. In a major design shift, the drum located to the right of the driver’s seat, which held 18 cannon shells, has been completely removed. This drum was not isolated from the crew compartment, posing a real threat in the event of a direct hit leading to detonation. The drum has been replaced with electronic components and a silencer.
