There are several ways to glaze a K series Telephone Box & no doubt there will be followers unhappy with my technique . With over 13 years restoring Telephone Boxes I've never had one comeback although in the early days it took me a whole day to glaze a kiosk (It now takes one hour)
Ok... Trim off approx. 3 mm from the tip of the nozzle & apply a continuous bead of clear silicone to the inside of the inner cast iron glazing frame. I prefer to do the large central panes first (because you can use your hands through the adjacent smaller panes to ensure the larger glass is correctly located, snug & secure) ALWAYS glaze from the bottom up (just in case one falls from the top whilst your glazing lower down!!) Ensure the glass is gently pushed in snug & use the same nozzle to run a bead of silicon starting in a top corner first, running around & finishing in the opposite top corner. LEAVE ALONE once applied. Silicone is an amazing strong & flexible material if used correctly but a terrible product if you get it smeared over your glass, hands & clothes (It does not wash out!!!) any little errors, slips or air pockets can be rectified once the silicone has fully cured (usually a couple of days) Once the large panes are in place start on the smaller ones. It's good practice to push the smaller ones 'home' & leave for an hour before going around the inside.to secure as the smaller panes. Being lighter they have a tendency to 'skate' about if the nozzle pushes the edge of the glass. Leave over night to 'cure' then using a fresh untrimmed nozzle repeat the same process on the outside. Any further help contact Remember When UK either on Facebook or though our website redtelephonebox.com Good Luck!
