Thermite reactions consist with high amounts of heat generation. Aluminium powder is flammable. Be careful when handling chemicals.
For make manganese metal, manganese dioxide and aluminium powder mixture is required. By igniting such a mixture it can produce high amounts of heat. Due to this high heat reacted product can be melted and it can separate easily.
For the first demo 24 g of manganese dioxide and 10 g of aluminium powder was used.For the second demo 48 g of manganese dioxide and 20 g of aluminium powder was used.
Single displacement reaction is going on during the experiment
2Al(s) + 3MnO2(s) ---= 3Mn(s) + 2Al2O3(s)
