We created our movie project on end of life decision making. We discussed different statistics throughout the video. The interview was a student about what their opinion was of dying at home or in a hospital/hospice. We included a Ted Talk by Judy MacDonald Johnston who discusses the importance of having a plan, advocates, caregivers, and have your last words planned. We showed forms that people should fill out so that if they are ever in this situation, doctors will know what the patient would like them to do. Whether to save them and bring them back to life to every extreme or do not the doctors will now have a firm document of the patients wishes.
Our ethical problems were that health professionals sometimes do not think that what the patient is choosing to do is correct but they have to respect the patients wishes. Another problem is how it is illegal for health professionals to give lethal injections to speed up or make death less painful. It is legal though for health professionals to stop performing treatments due to the patients' wishes. A main point of the movie was to show how each individual can benefit if they film out the forms. We each get to decide what we would wish would happen to us if we were ever in a situation that resulted in life or death.
