India's second lunar mission is expected to land on a completely unexplored part of the Moon on Sept. 6. It is the first space mission to conduct a soft landing on the Moon's south polar region. The 141-million-U.S.-dollar mission is called Chandrayaan-2, whose name is Sanskrit for "moon craft." It will analyze minerals, map the Moon's surface and search for water. India's first lunar mission orbited the Moon in 2008 and helped confirm the presence of water.
