New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed a formal meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison will be “relatively soon” as the trans-Tasman bubble will reopen later in April.
Prime Minister Ardern announced on Tuesday New Zealand will reopen the trans-Tasman travel bubble from 11:59pm on Sunday April 18.
She said due to the inability to host a face-to-face meeting with her Australian counterpart, the prime ministers had been “delaying the leader-level dialogue” which usually takes place at the beginning of the year.
Ms Ardern said she spoke to Prime Minister Morrison last night to advise him her Cabinet would be discussing the travel bubble today.
“The first thing we talked about was when we could have those face-to-face meetings,” she said.
“Dates are being disused. I expect it will be relatively soon.
“I'll be looking to use the opportunity to take Prime Minister Morrison to an area that has previously enjoyed high levels of international visitors and that we'll want to put back on the world stage.”
