EECA welcomed the news in last week’s Budget that the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme is to receive a $56m boost - it’s estimated these changes will see another 9,000 homes retrofitted with insulation and/or an efficient heater.
The State Sector Decarbonisation programme also received an increase in the Budget, with $30m over four years going to cover operational costs at MBIE, EECA, and the Ministry of Education. As the state sector represents a significant chunk of the economy, lowering its carbon emissions is important work. EECA’s work will start with schools and hospitals, where we will replace coal boilers with sustainable alternatives, locking in energy and emissions savings for decades to come.
Andrew Caseley provides an update on what Budget 2020 means for EECA in this video.
