Colorado Backcountry Biker (CBB) had a sale on their fleet of rental bikes. Buying a slightly used chariot is a great way to save money. The first day, I tested a Norco Fluid at 18 Road (Prime Cut, PBR, Up Dawg, MoJoes) and Loma (Mary's and Wrangler). It was a solid ride, but not what I was looking for since I already had a XC bike with 120 suspension. On day two, the guys at the shop hooked me up with an Orbea Rallon. I took the Rallon to Gunny Loop and rode the chunky sections a few times and fell in love with it. The suspension handled everything and was very forgiving when I made mistakes on my line choices. Plus, the 29" tires made a huge difference in rolling smoothly over the rocky terrain. The frame was two years old and CBB sold it for basically half off. An amazing deal.
The day after I bought the bike, I took it on Joe's Ridge to repeatedly ride several features and get the feel for my new steed. I started to get more confident as the afternoon progressed, unfortunately, a winter storm rolled in, the temperature dipped, and it started to snow.
I can't wait to hit the trails after the snow melts and get more confident on the Orbea.
