The EU needs to ease the burden of skyrocketing energy prices on consumers by shifting surplus profits, says the EPP Group's Markus Pieper, co-rapporteur of the Renewable Energy Directive. In the medium-term, the electricity market needs a redesign while Europe expands its renewable energy sources, such as wind and hydrogen. That means speeding up the expansion of needed infrastructure and developing a hydrogen bank.
