Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner said on September 9 in Buenos Aires that her country wants to join the BRICS bloc, which currently groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Thus the abbreviation will change into BRICSA, said the president in the companionship of former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Kirchner praised Lula's accomplishments during his two terms as head of state of Brazil, the largest economy in Latin America, and asked him to be "the ambassador for Argentina to be integrated into BRICS."
Argentina is the third strongest economy in Latin America, trailing Mexico.
