Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 Verse 1 | The Eternal Knowledge Revealed | Just Sudha Gyan
In this verse, Lord Krishna begins Chapter 4 by explaining the origin of the eternal knowledge of Yoga. He reveals that He had imparted this sacred wisdom to the Sun God, Vivasvan, who in turn taught it to Manu, the father of mankind. This verse emphasizes the timeless nature of divine knowledge, handed down through an unbroken chain of wise teachers for the benefit of humanity.
श्रीभगवानुवाच
इमं विवस्वते योगं प्रोक्तवानहमव्ययम्।
विवस्वान्मनवे प्राह मनुरिक्ष्वाकवेऽब्रवीत्॥ ४.१॥
śhrī-bhagavān uvācha
Imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ proktavān aham avyayam
vivasvān manave prāha manur ikṣhvākave ’bravīt (4.1)
Translation:
"The Blessed Lord said: I instructed this imperishable science of Yoga to Vivasvan (the Sun God); Vivasvan passed it on to Manu, and Manu in turn taught it to Ikshvaku."
Meaning:
This verse highlights the lineage of spiritual wisdom. Lord Krishna shares that the eternal science of Yoga is not new but was originally imparted to the Sun God, who then passed it down through generations. The timeless wisdom preserved through this lineage is meant to uplift humanity by guiding them towards spiritual awakening and righteousness.
