During the design stage of their project Water Resources Alliance identified the risks associated with screeding and finishing over 43,000m2 of concrete channel on clay slopes up to 34 degrees and also exceeding three metres in height. An engineering solution was adapted from the Gomaco concrete screed machine that creates a fully automatic concrete cylinder finishing machine, with working platforms that run co-jointly on a custom rail system. This new design has significantly reduced the risk of musculoskeletal strains, falls from height, slips and plant interaction associated with the delivery and placement of concrete. This entry sets a benchmark in relation to the placing and finishing of vast amounts of concrete on both horizontal and sloped surfaces including channels, bridge decks, building slabs, road ways, airport runways and speedways.
