This is the thirty-first lesson in a series of lessons using Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method, Grade 1 as our primary source of instruction. This lesson focuses on page 37 (pages 73-74 expanded edition). Page 37 teaches the three primary chords in the key of G Major. These are the G chord, the C chord, and the D7 chord. The lesson also teaches the concept of a 1-bar repeat symbol. Lastly, it introduces the beginning stages of shifting into 3rd position as it has you play the notes B (middle line of the staff) and D (second-to-top line of the staff) together using 2nd finger on B on the 4th fret of the 3rd string and first finger on D on the 3rd fret of the second string. It doesn't define it as 3rd position but it is definitely 3rd position. The book will continue to use this chord shape throughout the remainder of its exercises!
This lesson has two exercises, one called "Accompaniment Styles in the Key of G" and the other called "Etude". Etude is a duet which I will demonstrate both parts separately and together.
