Finding the perfect AC unit for your enclosure is vital to controlling maximum enclosure temperatures, keeping out harmful agents, extending equipment life, and preventing malfunction due to overheating.
In this video, we will determine how to calculate enclosure cooling requirements so you can pick the perfect Pfannenberg air conditioner for your enclosure.
The first step to calculating your enclosure cooling requirements is determining your enclosure heat load. If the heat load is not managed properly, components could exceed temperature limits and fail.
To find your enclosure's internal heat load, create a list of all the equipment in the cabinet, look up the amount of heat in watts that each component generates, and add it all up.
Next, determine the external heat load. This can be done by determining the ambient conditions outside of the enclosure. This includes factors like the enclosure location and ambient air conditions outside of the enclosure.
Now that both the internal and external heat load have been calculated, we can add the numbers together to determine the total heat load in watts.
With your total heat load calculation complete, it is time to convert watts to Btu using the conversion factor: 1 W = 3.415 Btu/hr.This is the amount of cooling needed to offset that heat. For example, if the total heat load in watts is 400 then the Btu/hr needed is 1366.
The Btu/hr can be used to determine the perfect Pfannenberg Air Conditioner for your enclosure. For example, the Pfannenberg DTS 3041 Series AC unit has a Btu/h capacity of 3,000 BTUs. This would be a great fit for an enclosure with a heat load of 400 watts like in our example.
