Matthew 24:42 "Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming."
1. Matthew 24:1-31: Jesus tells us of "The Beginning of Birth Pains," "The Great Tribulation," and The Coming of the Son of Man.
2. Matthew 24:32-35: Jesus doesn't tell us everythiing we might like to know about the timing of His coming, but He tells us everything we need to know about His coming.
3. Matthew 24:36-51: Jesus tells us that we must always be ready for HIs coming, for He is coming at an hour we do not expect.
a. His coming will be like the Flood in the days of Noah (24:36-39).
b. His coming will be a surprise to people going about their daily routines (24:40-41).
c. His coming will be like a thief in the n ight (24:42-44; 1 Thess. 5:2).
d. His coming will be like a Master returning to check on the stewardship of His household servants (Matthew 24:45-51).
4. Matthew 25:1-46: Jesus tells us that there are serious consequences for the unprepared and wonderful blessings for the prepared.
5. 2 Peter 3:1-13: No matter how long the apparent delay, Jesus IS coming, and we must be prepared at every moment.
a. Humbly admit the fact of His coming (2 Peter 3:1-7).
b. Humbly accept His patience that gives time for repentence (3:8-10).
c. Humbly serve His holy purpose as you await the fulfillment of His perfect promise (2 Peter 3:11-13).

Discussion Questions:
1. Describe a time when a parent, teacher, or boss was returning after being away. Were you nervous? Did you prepare for their return? How did it go?
2. Read Matthew 24:36-44. What is Jesus' point in these verses (vs. 42, 44).
3. Read the ESV Section Headings (e.g. "The Lesson of the Fig Tree") for Matthew chapters 24-25. What word pictures does jesus use to help us understand His coming and the manner in which we should prepare for it?
4. If Jesus were to return today, would He find you prepared? Why/Why Not?
