Thomas Powell Part 6.
Oil Separator Tank for side wheeler Thomas Powell.
Thomas Powell is a live steam model, and is built from scratch .
The purpose of an oil separator tank is mainly to avoid greasy stains on the model...and on the lake!
Oily exhaust steam hits the inner walls of the tank. Oil/water runs downwards and the clean steam goes out. At the end of the day, I use a syringe to syphon the condensate out.
The tank can be built with thin-gauge sheet metal, since there's no more pressure inside.
This one also serves as a dock for the gas cartridge, keeping it just warm, thus preventing the freezing problem: as the liquid propane expands to a gas, it commonly freezes!
Of course, the real paddle steamer burned premium anthracite coal!
Thomas Powell steamboat was built in 1846 in New York . She was the predecessor of the very famous Hudson River steamship Mary Powell.
The giant walking beam steam engine was built by T.F. Secor & Co. marine Engineers.
Plans I drew for this paddle wheeler and it's engine are not for sale.

Episode 6
