Hiram Dooley House: Soon to Be Demolished Civil War Era Home in Abingdon, Virginia. Built in 1849 by its namesake, the Hiram Dooley House is slated for demolition by the Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church. The home survived the Civil War but is facing the wrecking ball in early spring according to the church announcement. An online petition was launched to get the church to reconsider and has racked up over 2,000 signatures as of this time. I hope it is saved but, realistically, it is ultimately the church's decision to make. The church pays the taxes, upkeep, etc. so it is easy for an outsider to try to tell them what to do when we don't have to participate in the upkeep. I will definitely be keeping a close eye on this development. - Shane
