The Black Sea fleet has been carrying out exercises at the same time as guided missile cruisers move to join them to counter three NATO carrier strike groups.
The show of force comes amid heightened tensions as Russian troops on the ground march into Ukraine.
The footage of the exercise shows the Admiral Essen frigate, accompanied by a Ka-27 PS helicopter, operating in the Black Sea on 22 February, according to the Russian Federation's Ministry of Defense's press department.
The drill was part of the ongoing exercises of the Black Sea Fleet's naval forces, naval aviation, and coastal troops, which were led by Admiral Igor Osipov, the Commander of the Black Sea Fleet.
The Black Sea Fleet's naval aviation pilots practised taking off and landing on the ship's deck while at anchor and on the move, as well as conducting training to ensure the coordination of air and sea systems.
The flights were done both during the day and at night and carried out as it was reported that the RTS Moskva had moved into the Black Sea. Moskva is the leader for the Project 1164 Atlant class of guided missile cruisers and belongs to the Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet.
Also entering the Mediterranean from opposite ends were the RTS Marshal Ustinov from Russia's Northern Fleet, and RFS Varyag is from the Pacific Fleet. Both the vessels entered the Mediterranean from opposite ends earlier this month according to US officials quoted by USNI News.
The three vessels are Slava Class capable of carrying anti-ship cruise missiles that could pose a threat to aircraft carriers from the US and NATO.
The US Navy has the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group in the same area with the Italian Navy aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and the French carrier FS Charles de Gaulle also in the region.
