Today we’ll be taking a look at the Dell EMC PowerEdge XR2 Server. This is the new generation of rugged PowerEdge XR enclosures and the successor to the PowerEdge R420XR. This may come as a surprise to you but not every server room is in a building. The Dell XR2 rugged industrial server was developed for harsh environments and made to withstands shock, vibration, dust humidity, and electromagnetic interference. Whether that equates to an EM burst I don’t know, but these are used by the military and for maritime applications or other hot, humid, and generally disagreeable environments. In a nut shell, it supports two Scalable processors, 8x drive bays, and up to 30TB of storage.
I’ll be honest with you, I was expecting it to look a little different, maybe not outside the case but inside. What I found is that the Dell XR2 server looks very much like a standard 1U server. However, for such a small size is does feel quite heavy with maybe… Watch the video!!
