"Should I buy a proof gold coin?" is a question I get a lot. Normally, I say no because proof coins carry a higher premium over their intrinsic value. (They're harder to make since they're struck twice, whereas a typical coin is struck once.) But, if you can find a proof at a local coin shop, the price is typically the same as the typical bullion version of the coin.
