The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (or NPT) is the centerpiece of the nonproliferation regime. This lecture explains its three main pillars, its near-universal membership, and its effectiveness. We also explore how some countries, dissatisfied with its progress, have taken steps to create nuclear weapons free zones and develop a Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
