The manufacturing sector ended the year on a low note as all factory data fell between November and December 2024.
According to Stats SA data, manufacturing production declined by 2.6% over a year ago in November 2024, following an upwardly revised 0.9% increase in the prior month.
This marked the steepest contraction in manufacturing activity since June.
The decline was attributed to lower production of motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment, basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, and others.
