As the carnival in Rio de Janeiro enters its final day, the same Special Forces Unit that normally fights drug trafficking gangs is stationed at the beaches in full combat gear.
About 300 police on motorbikes and on foot, carrying pistols and stun guns, weave their way around the umbrellas. The deployment comes after a recent wave of crime targeted tourists and locals alike.
