About Speaker:
Dr Manish Roorkiwal is a Senior Scientist (Genomics and Molecular Breeding) at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) based in Hyderabad, India. He is also associated with the Institute of Agriculture, University of Western Australia as Adjunct Associate Professor. With a basic background in molecular genetics and applied genomics, Manish has over 15 years of research experience. At the core of his work is the improvement of crop productivity of legumes in marginal environments using modern genetics and breeding approaches, including genomic selection and GWAS. Manish has a strong interest in the area of modern breeding approaches such as genomic selection and next generation sequencing-based re-sequencing and low-cost genotyping for enhancing the use of markers in routine breeding. He is known for leading the efforts in developing cost-effective genotyping platforms enabling use of markers in routine breeding programs. His expertise are Genomics, forward breeding, next generation sequencing, modern breeding approaches such as genomic selection and Marker Assisted Backcrossing
He was awarded the DST-INSPIRE Faculty Award by the Government of India in June 2015.
He is involved in many editorial activities which includes Journals like Springer, The Plant Genome” Journal published by The Crop Society of America, and Frontiers in Plant Science. He is a Reviewer for international journals like Plant Biotechnology Journal, Scientific Reports, PlosOne, Theor Appl Genet and DNA Research.
