The 2023 Kia Sorento is at the forefront of the Large SUV segment in so many regards, but it's only in more recent times that a 'self-charging' hybrid powertrain has become an option in its line-up, helping it to better rival the Toyota Kluger and Hyundai Santa Fe.
Known in South Korean parlance as the HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), the Sorento's alternative power source combines a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver improved fuel consumption, making it not only a strong contender for frugal family buyers, but also a viable alternative to the traditional petrol V6 and diesel four-cylinder units.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar takes the Sorento HEV for a spin in flagship GT-Line AWD form to see if it is the ultimate family car and, therefore, the powertrain option in the range.
