TheOPENING follows a strange attraction to stuff, to things, materials. It is an
interdisciplinary creature unfolding the space of choreography between performance installation and dance, crossing and colliding borders with time-based and visual art events.
TheOPENING is a two-hour long art related event. An opening and a finisage of it at once. A condensation of eerie imagery, carnal sensations and a mix of felt emotions brought to life by a willingly intuitive approach - a condition of dismantling the focus on the human body itself, allowing the condition of timely gradual yet unfamiliar construction of symbolic systems to appear - a placing-displacing uncanny monster, a linguistic comprehension challenge, an expanded body river of Eastern European hardly established yet pretty heartfelt liquid identity.
This work extends and expands on a long lasting collaboration between choreographers
Laima Jaunzema (Latvia, 1987) and Maciej Sado (Poland, 1987).
We place our own docility of what could be referred to as post-soviet body histories and cultural
territories as a reference to maintain and reimagine resistance. We practise the invention of the territory where the landscape includes the fields of the unknown. The landscape that explores– what is it to stay with in- betweens, leftovers, myths, Frankensteins, . What is it to develop awkward feelings with them, looking for previously unknown mutations, falling in care of love other than romantic dominant narratives based on consumed clear happy endings. Within the mutations of moulded and re-informed structures of symbols, we look for the materials to deconstruct the hierarchies of sharing, hierarchies of empathy and pity.
We recover the time of the freaks; we freak the time by not knowing.
