Ban Ki-moon appeals for calm
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is due to arrive in Israel on Tuesday to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Ban is also expected to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Before his visit, Ban urged Israelis and Palestinians to find a peaceful solution to what he called “the dangerous escalation in violence.” On Tuesday, two more people were killed. In one incident near the Jewish settlement of Kiryat Abya, a truck ran over an Israeli man after he got out of his vehicle because it had been hit by stones. The truck had a West Bank licence plate. And near Hebron, a Palestinian was shot to death during riots. The Israeli army says he tried to stab an officer.
