A recent New York Times report, citing U.S. and Ukrainian officials, suggests that Russia has assembled a force of 50,000 soldiers, including approximately 10,000 North Korean troops, for a major assault in the Kursk region. The buildup, reportedly without drawing forces away from eastern Ukraine, allows Russia to maintain its positions on multiple fronts while intensifying efforts to retake land in Kursk.
The North Korean troops, equipped with Russian weapons like machine guns, sniper rifles, and anti-tank missiles, are expected to operate as separate units while wearing Russian military uniforms. Ukrainian officials anticipate an attack in the coming days, as North Korean soldiers are currently training with Russian forces in western Kursk.
This development follows Ukraine’s large-scale drone strike on Moscow on November 10, involving at least 34 drones that diverted flights from major airports and injured one person.
