Results of Afghan presidential elections point to a victory for incumbent President Ashraf Ghani. According to the Independent Election Commission, Ghani won over 50 percent of the vote. As soon as results were announced, rival candidate Abdullah's office released a statement saying he would contest it. Preliminary results in the September 28 poll, originally due in October, were marred by low turnout and fraud claims.
