The control of Congress and state governments in North Carolina and South Carolina were up for grabs as Americans voted in the 2022 midterm elections.
Nationally, Democrats braced for disappointing results, while Republicans are feeling optimistic about taking control of both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. President Joe Biden, who is facing his first national election since taking the White House in 2020, admitted he felt Democrats would keep the Senate but acknowledged "the House is tougher."
In one of those Senate races, Republican Ted Budd defeated Democrat Cheri Beasley in North Carolina. Budd's win secured another GOP Senate victory in North Carolina. The Republican Party has controlled both North Carolina Senate seats since 2015.
In South Carolina, Republican Gov. Henry McMaster earned another four-year term. He defeated Democrat Joe Cunningham with relative ease. Another Republican earned an easy win, as Sen. Tim Scott picked up the victory for another six-year term in Congress. #WakeUpCLT #Politics #Election
