WisDOT + USH 53 to Mallard Road | Eau Claire, WI
With aging culvert pipes and drainage structures from the 1960s
and 70s, the Northwest Region of WisDOT needed efficient
means of analyzing the condition and potential remediation
measures before an upcoming pavement replacement for
Interstate Highway 94.
Building on an existing partnership and master contract with
WisDOT, ISG utilized pipe crawler technology to inspect over
1,800 liner feet in eight locations of existing culvert pipes and
drainage structures. By using the pipe crawler’s laser camera,
measurements of each pipe joint and the slope and condition
of the entire pipe were easily obtained. The resulting report
was used to help WisDOT determine a potential remediation
strategy of lining the pipes to incorporate into an upcoming
pavement replacement project.
ISG’s team and innovative technology exceeded expectations
by completing the extensive scope of work within 1.5 days.
This saved both parties time and money not only on the front
end, but also in the long run by minimizing the possibility of
change orders and budget overages.
