Rooted in the mythological Samudra Manthan, the event marks the spots where drops of divine Amrit fell during a battle between gods and demons. Devotees participate to attain Moksha, believing that bathing in these sacred waters washes away sins. The event, inscribed as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017, has a significant economic impact, generating billions in revenue and employment opportunities. Preparations for the 2025 edition are underway, with massive investments in infrastructure and amenities to accommodate the expected record-breaking crowds.
