Track 7 from his second album "The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle" released in 1973 copyright Columbia Records. It was their second recorded at 914 Sound in Blauvelt, New York and was again produced by Bruce's manager Mike Appel with assistance from Jim Cretecos. As with his debut, the album received widespread critical acclaim but sales were less than expected and mostly limited to the Northeast U.S. where he developed a faithful audience. This album reached No. 60 in Australia, No. 59 in the U.S., No. 34 in Sweden and No. 33 in the U.K. It has since been certified Gold in Australia, Silver in the U.K. and 2X Platinum in the U.S. Recorded from the original vinyl. Billy, he's down by the railroad tracks sittin' low in the backseat of his Cadillac
Diamond Jackie, she's so intact as she falls so softly beneath him
Jackie's heels are stacked, Billy's got cleats on his boots
Together they're gonna boogaloo down Broadway and come back home with their loot
It's midnight in Manhattan, this is no time to get cute, it's a mad dog's promenade
So walk tall or, baby, don't walk at all
Fish lady, oh, fish lady, fish lady, she baits them tenement walls
She won't take corner boys, they ain't got no money and they're so easy
I said, "Hey, babe, ah, baby, won't you take my hand, walk with me down Broadway?
Well, Mama, take my arm and move with me down Broadway, yeah"
I'm a young man, I talk real loud, yeah, babe, I walk real proud for you, ah, so shake it away
So shake away your street life, shake away your city life
And hook up to the train, oh, hook up to the night train
Hook it up, hook up to the, hook up to the train
But I know that she won't take the train (no, she won't take the train)
No, she won't take the train (no, she won't take the train)
Oh, she won't take the train (no, she won't take the train)
Oh, she won't take the train (no, she won't take the train)
She's afraid them tracks are gonna slow her down
And when she turns, this boy'll be gone
So long, sometimes you just gotta walk on, walk
Hey, vibes man, hey, jazzman, ah, play me a serenade
If it were any deeper blue you'd be playin' in your grave
Save your notes, don't spend 'em on the blues boy
Save your notes, don't spend 'em on the darlin' yearlin' sharp boy
Straight for the church note ringin', vibes man sting a trash can
Listen to your junkman, ah, listen to your junkman
Listen to your junkman, oh, listen to your junkman
He's singing (singin') he's singin' (singin')
He's singin' (singin') all dressed up in satin walkin' past the alley (singin')
He's (singin', singin', singin') yeah (singin') yeah
(Singin', singin', singin') yeah, he's (singin') yeah, he's
(Singin', singin', singin', singin') oh-oh, oh-oh, oh, ah, yeah
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, oh, yeah
Watch, I'ma be a junkman
Watch, I'ma be a junkman
Oh, watch, I'ma be a junkman
Come on, little girl, won't ya?
Watch, I'ma be a junkman
Watch, I'ma be a junkman
Watch, I'ma be a junkman
