This revolution was announced on 9 August 1942, due to which 9 August is celebrated as August Revolution Day. The history behind this is that on 4 July 1942, the Indian National Congress passed a resolution that if the British did not leave India now, a civil disobedience movement would be launched against them on a nationwide scale.
