In this video, we will review how to score a boxing match and the 10 point must system for beginners.
That way you can score the next big boxing fight for yourself.
Scoring a professional boxing match can be a complex process, as it involves evaluating a variety of factors such as clean punching, effective defense, ring generalship, and overall dominance in the ring. In most professional boxing matches, three judges are present at ringside to score the fight, each judge will score the fight round by round, giving a score to the boxer they believe won the round.
To score a round, judges use a 10-point must system where the winner of the round is awarded 10 points and the loser is awarded 9 or less. In the event of a close round where both boxers performed similarly, the round may be scored as a 10-10 "even round."
The judges also take into account things like, knockdowns, punches landed, punches avoided and ring control. A knockdown, where a boxer is sent to the canvas by their opponent's punch, is scored very heavily, as it is considered a clear indication of dominance in the round. The number of punches landed can also be taken into account, as a higher number of punches landed usually indicates a stronger performance in the round. Additionally, the judges will also take in account the effective use of defense and ring control and how that boxer is able to use these to control the ring.
At the end of the fight, the scores from all three judges are added up to determine the winner. If two judges score the fight for one boxer and one judge scores it for the other, that boxer wins by majority decision. If all three judges score the fight for the same boxer, that boxer wins by unanimous decision. A draw can happen if all the judges score the fight even or the scores are split in a way that the judges can't agree on a clear winner.
It's important to note that scoring a boxing match is a subjective process, and different judges may have different opinions on how a fight should be scored. Scoring is also influenced by the rules and regulations of the sanctioning body or commission overseeing the event.
