When it comes to side-by-sides that scream performance, the 2024 Yamaha YXZ is hard to ignore. We had the chance to do a quick trail-side review during our latest adventure, and it didn’t disappoint. Parked beside a shed that’s seen better days (seriously, this thing looked like it would topple over in a light breeze), the YXZ stood out as a machine built for thrills.
The first thing that catches your eye is the aggressive styling, with sharp lines and a stance that says it's ready to conquer whatever you throw at it. But the real star is under the hood. The YXZ’s sequential gearbox is pure joy for enthusiasts, offering a level of control that's hard to find in the CVT-dominated market.
Out on the trail, the YXZ feels alive. Its suspension soaks up the bumps and rocks with ease, and the chassis inspires confidence even on tight, technical sections. However, it’s worth noting that this machine thrives in open terrain where it can stretch its legs. In the tighter trails, the lack of low-end grunt compared to some CVT-equipped competitors might leave you wishing for a little more torque.
Despite its few quirks, the Yamaha YXZ is a standout option for anyone who loves high-performance trail rides and the occasional dune trip. Its build quality and trail manners make it a strong contender in the 2024 lineup.
So, while the shed might not have stood the test of time, the Yamaha YXZ proves it's more than ready to take on the trails year after year.
