At last month’s X Games, Nico Porteous successfully pulled off one of the most technically difficult halfpipe runs in history, including his trademark back-to-back double 1620s, which are a technical masterpiece that each require four-and-a-half full rotations while in midair.
The 2022 Winter Olympics begins in Beijing with Friday’s opening ceremony and New Zealand’s team is hoping to bring home the country’s first gold medal from the showpiece snow sports event.
Freeskier Nico Porteous and snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, who won bronze medals as 16-year-olds at the PyeongChang Games four years ago, are back for their second Olympics.
Both are excellent prospects to win gold in China after their consistent success in global events, such as the acclaimed X Games, since becoming New Zealand’s youngest Olympic medallists in 2018.
