Hanifaru Bay

Hanifaru เป็นอ่าวที่อยู่ในบริเวณของ Baa Atoll ซึ่งมีขนาดประมาณสนามฟุตบอล ลักษณะทางภูมิศาสตร์เป็นรูปกรวยและปลายอ่าวปิด ปากอ่าวหันออกทางทิศตะวันตก เมื่อลมประจำฤดูกาลมาถึง เมื่อน้ำขึ้น ทั้งลมและกระแสน้ำจะพัดเอาแพลงตอนจำนวนมหาศาลเข้ามาอยู่ในอ่าว Hanifaru ด้วยความหนาแน่นของจำนวนแพลงตอน จึงดึงดูดสัตว์น้ำที่กินแพลงตอนเป็นอาหารในบริเวณนั้น เข้ามารวมตัวกินอาหารในอ่าวเล็กๆแห่งนี้ เราโอกาสที่จะได้พบกับแมนต้าจำนวนหลายร้อยตัวในอ่าวนี้ และบางครั้งถ้าเราโชคดีจะได้พบฉลามวาฬด้วย อ่าว Hanifaru ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็น UNESCO Biosphere Reserve เพื่อปกป้องสัตว์ทะเล และ Natural Feeding Station แห่งนี้

Hanifaru in Baa Atoll is a small, enclosed underwater bay approximately size of football field. Hanifaru Bay is like a funnel which is wide outside and narrow down to inside of the bay. When the Monsoon of season arrives and after high tide, wind and current will be bring a massive of plankton into the bay and plankton gets trapped in the funnel. The concentration of plankton attracts schools of Manta Ray and sometime Whale Shark. This is the world’s largest natural feeding station. Hanifaru is UNESCO Bioshere Reserve in order to protect and preserve this amazing place.
