This visit had a lasting effect on Elisabeth-- and the future of Russian palaces. What meanings were made as a result of Russian art in Chinese style? Neither Chinese nor European, chinoiserie (art in the Chinese style) allowed the Imperial court to define and promote the values and interests of both the Empress and the Russian state.
