The Supreme Court is deciding whether the "first sale" doctrine, which allows the resale of legally obtained copies of copyrighted works without permission, applies to copies of American copyrighted works manufactured abroad. The Court is also deciding whether the phrase "lawfully made under this title" in the doctrine is geographically limited. This would determine the scope of the "first sale" doctrine.
