Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla's superhit film "Tere Naam", which came in the year 2003, was a Hindi remake of the 1999 Tamil film "Setu". And the story of Tere Naam was based on a real incident as well. Balasubramanian aka Bala who made the original film Sethu; this story was taken from a real incident of one of his friends. Balasubramanian had told in an interview that one of his friends had fallen in love with a girl, but due to social reasons people were not accepting their relationship, due to which his friend had gone mad. After which he was sent to the lunatic asylum. And when he came back after recovering, the girl had committed suicide. And then his friend did what we are shown in the movie, his friend went back to the mental asylum. Although some people also believe that this story is also inspired from some extent to the love story of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai.
