Loy Krathong is an annual Thai festival where people float small, decorated baskets called “krathongs” on rivers to show gratitude to the Goddess of Water, known as Khongkha. This tradition is celebrated across Thailand and nearby regions with South Western Tai cultures, including Laos and parts of Myanmar and Malaysia. Loy Krathong typically occurs in November on the night of the full moon in the 12th lunar month. In Chiang Mai, the celebration lasts three days, with 2024 dates set for November 15-16.
