(9 Aug 1994) The humanitarian airlift to Sarajevo resumed on Tuesday (9/8)
after a break of almost three weeks. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which is supervising the humanitarian airlift,
said the Canadian C-130 arrived from the Ancona military airbase
in Italy and a total 14 of planes were expected during the day.
The UNHCR announced the resumption of deliveries on Tuesday. A city transport company announced it would stage a demonstration against renewed sniper attacks on tram passengers. It plans to run a tram continuously throughout the town without taking anyone aboard.
U.N. commander for Bosnia Lt. Gen. Sir Michael Rose proposed the creation of a demilitarized zone around Sarajevo.
Rose called on the warring sides to withdraw all soldiers and
heavy weapons in and around Sarajevo, including heavy weapons
monitored by the United Nations.
