Continuing my guide to the shipwrecks of Barbados as I felt it was hard in my previous video to cut it down to 15 mins! So here goes one of a series I'm starting to document and hopefully create a nice guide for anyone who wants to learn more about these wrecks!
This was a particularly amazing day not just cause of the visibility but the current was so slack!! Usually when we do this dive its extemely difficult as the current in this are rips and so you often feel like you are swimming on a high speed treadmill while you breath up - take a breath and go and on the way back your legs are just on fire from the lactic acid build up. So this was a nice treat as the water was super still.
This ship was a decommissioned fishing boat that was scuttled in August 2023 (if my memory serves!) Just off accra beach. At times there is a bouy but not always and sometimes its underwater from the current. I do worry soemtimes that the bouy makes it look easy ish to access - the thing is its easy to get out there but getting back to the beach is when you need to be a good swimmer and be well versed at reading the waves and currents. Sometimes if its hard hard hard we just go down the coast with it and come in later down the boardwalk by KFC. So be WARNED its not an easy dive.
Since hurricane beryl its slipped down the sand embankment it was on and is now 5m deeper at 27m and lays on its side instead of upright as before. You can see this positioning in my previous shorter videos.
Gave my husband a good work out keeping up with me this day :)
He doesnt often come and film with me so when he does i put him to werkkkk !!
Song from epidemic sounds its called "It feels like summer" by Sum Wave
- which is very appropriate as bajan summer is where its at when it comes to diving here ! Other seasons are good too as im a bit spoilt but that summer viz! urgh! clear and warm and still - perfect for freediving!
