Was about to pot up some spring containers and thought it would be fun to talk briefly about growing pansies and growing violas. The differences between pansy and viola are becoming less and less through the heavy crossing and breeding of the two. Typically violas have smaller flowers, more cold tolerance, wider growth and can flower better in part sun than pansies. Pansy flowers are larger and have a much more bold impact in the garden. How to grow pansies and violas is pretty simple and they are a wonderful addition to the garden from fall all the way into mid to late spring. The warmer the climate, the less flowering time one will get out of them.
