Sokhna Diagne Seye is a first generation immigrant from the West African country of Senegal. A wise cultural teacher and chef, she has teamed up with Queer Videography to create a short film sharing her vision for a more united America.
“Teranga means hospitality. Senegalese people are well known for their hospitality, for their welcoming of everybody.” - Diagne
In a country where we are nearly all children of immigrants, Diagne is one leader in a movement to reclaim the power that comes with such great diversity. The second half of every social justice movement is the work of replacing oppressive structures with celebration and healing. Diagne’s calling and passion is healing the scars of injustice in America by cooking and sharing foods from all of our diverse cultures.
Diagne is looking to connect with a producer to create a cooking competition TV show featuring under privileged young Americans. Diagne and other featured celebrities will guide, mentor, and teach the contestants the value and healing power of traditional foods from their cultural heritage. The winner will be given funding and support to open an eatery or food truck to share healing food with their community.
